March 24-26 Goliad Massacre. 1836 Goliad, TX Here is a Texas Rev event for you. We will portray Miller's Company and serve as Light Infantry for the battles. We will use the 1820's light infantry manual. Here is another chance to use the modified Regular's impression from Ft. Towson. I intend making this an intense weekend for us. Plan on guard duty, lots of drill, etc. Goliad is the only fully restored Presidio in Texas. May 26-28 Artillery Live Fire 1846 Ft. Sill, OK I have been wanting to do this for years. We will support our sister unit Company A 2nd Artillery. We'll also see if we can fire live muskets. Let's go cheer on our sister unit and see if Captain Lawrence and Sgt. Major Lawrence can retain their crown as the King of the King of Battles. Artillery Punch to be served on Saturday night. This will also give many of us a chance to put the artillery training to use in a live fire situation. August 11-13 Siege of Ft. Erie, 1814 Canada. Our flags have flown in Mexico---now let's take them to Canada! This is the largest event in Canada. It is across the river from Buffalo, NY. Battles, explosion of the magazine, and the largest Brit line in North America. It's in the summer so you school teachers will be free. Lets show our prowess now north of the border! September 8-10 Melvern Lake-Mex War. 1846 South of Topeka, KS This event is sponsored by our sister unit of B Troop 1st Dragoons. Food, water, powder and straw provided. This will be a great time. More information to follow from Lt. Allie of B Troop. October 6-8 Mississinewa 1812. 1812-15 Marion, IN It was Mississin-mud last year. But while others wallowed in the quagmire it was relatively dry on Mt. Abolt. This is one of my favorites. It has been expanded to a three day event. Martin Lake is one of the best. If you have yet to attend make the effort. See you there. Perhaps you can find an elusive rubberhead. October 13-15 Ft. Osage. 1812 Sibley, MO This living history event put on by our sister unit of the 1st Infantry is top notch. Many of you have been unable to attend due to the proximity of Mississinewa. If you can do both this is an event you won't want to miss! November 3-5 Ft. Jackson. 1812 Wetumpka, AL This has been a great time over the last three years. The site is beautiful. Lots of participants in a timeline celebrating Alabama's early history--F&I through 1820. The 7th garrisoned this post at the confluence of the Coosa, Talapoosa and Alabama Rivers. Lots of sutlers for those who need to go "malling." November 10-12 National School of the Soldier 1840's. Ft. Washita, between Durant and Madill, OK MAXIMUM EFFORT!!!!!!!! A special event. We will host a National School of the Soldier for the Mexican War Period. This was actually done in the 1830's out east by order of General Scott. The results were so favorable one for the western department was planned. This will be an intense drill weekend. Our goal to bring small units together and drill, drill and more drill. This will accomplish training in the three branches, Artillery, Dragoons and Infantry. Capt. Lawrence will head up the School of the Piece, Lt. Allie will conduct The School of the Trooper. I will handle the Infantry School assisted by the NCO's. We will also invite any militia groups from the time period. This has exciting possibilities!!! More to follow. If you can only do one event this year make it Ft. Washita--the ghosts will thank you. |
